The Word Forest Organisation is a UK based charity that plants trees, builds classrooms, facilitates education, and supports a women’s empowerment group in Kenya. It also raises environmental awareness and plants trees in the UK too.
So far a third of a million trees have been planted. In a tiny handful of years that’ll remove 80,000 tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere and clean the air that blows all over the world.
So why plant trees in Kenya?
Trees planted in the tropics grow up to 10 times faster than anywhere else on the planet. In a short handful of years, on average, they absorb up to ¼ tonne of CO2 and other pollutants. A mango tree for example, at 5 years old, is 12ft tall and has a yield of 100 pieces
of fruit, a cashew will be 20ft tall and the tall, skinny casuarina, often used as a building pole, will be 35ft tall.
